Toshiba to Put Brakes on Chip Production for Nine Days

After a report claimed that Japanese Toshiba mull postponement of its chip plant constriction as previously reported on November 27, the company will suspend chip production, according a Reuters report on December 5. The company's two plants situated at Yokkaichi, Western Japan, and Oita, Southern Japan, will halt production for nine days, between December 27 and January 4, 2008, its first idling in seven years, according to the same source. The company's first suspension took place in 2001 amid weak global economy. Toshiba is yet to confirm the report though.
